…is a test tool for the quality analysis of traffic light control planning. It is an AddOn for the micro-simulation VISSIM. It extends VISSIM functionality towards automatic generation, implementation and statistical evaluation of simulation runs, thus enabling a systematic, comprehensive, convenient and time-saving quality analysis of traffic light control already in the planning phase.
Processing Steps

The tool can determine relevant service and performance indices according to HCM references and identify improvement potential for the control procedures by reading and analysing traffic and process data from the VISSIM simulation environment. MAT.CrossCheck particularly targets conspicuous system or traffic states that indicate either existing errors or room for improvement of the controller. Thus, MAT.CrossCheck also supports the iterative interaction between programming and configuration of the control and simulation tests, and helps to make the development of traffic light control more efficient. The results of the VISSIM simulation runs are evaluated test-specifically. The evaluations are displayed in configurable tables and charts, and summarized in reports. Reports are generated in the Microsoft-Office format on the basis of editable templates. The reports complement existing planning documents and can serve as an official quality certification.
User Interface

Tests as a Measure to Structural Analysis
Tests are the central objects of MAT.CrossCheck. They define which aspects of the control and traffic quality should be examined. After having a test provided with parameters, it gets executed, which means that one or several VISSIM runs are activated remotely and processed in the background. The results of these simulation runs are then analysed and pre-processed. There are different test types that refer to the examination of different quality aspects of the control logic or traffic flow. A single project can contain any number of tests and report instances of any type.
Functional Tests
Single Detector Demands
The detectors that request for green phases (vehicles, pedestrians and bikers) are individually activated at different seconds within the control cycle and their impact is examined.
Collective Detector Demands
The detectors that request for green phases (vehicles, pedestrians and bikers) are collectively activated at different seconds within the control cycle and their impact is examined.
Sequences of Detector Demands
Any groups of detectors are activated due to a defined time sequence and the respective response and green times are stored.
Detector Green Time Extensions
All green time extensions that are controlled through time gaps are being tested for all relevant detector signal group combinationens.
PT Calling Point Demands
The calling point sequences for check in/out for PT lines are examined for each intersection according to their correct functioning with respect to the prioritisation of PT.
Long-term Simulation
By means of a long-term simulation various function and performance criteria of traffic light controls are observed. Occurring errors and abnormal states are stored.
Performance Intersection
Capacity Vehicles, Pedestrians, Bikes
By means of VISSIM runs characteristic capacity and performance statistics for vehicles, pedestrians and bikers are generated according to HBS 2001.
Capacity PT
By means of VISSIM runs characteristic capacity and performance statistics for PT are generated according to HBS 2001.
Performance Road Section
Coordination Vehicles (Green Wave)
Through the generation of special traffic statistics, the coordination quality of the intersections along the green wave is determined and assessed.
Schedule Deviation PT Lines
Characteristic performance statistics for PT lines in the road network are determined and assessed according to HBS 2001.
